Khandwa (Madhya Pradesh), Oct 5 (SocialNews.XYZ) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Monday said the state has set a target to expand its irrigated area to more than 100 lakh hectares in the next five years.
He said the government was also speeding up the Karwani Lift Irrigation Project in Khandwa’s Harsud area and taking up power infrastructure works worth Rs 25 crore in tribal areas.
Addressing a programme in Harsud to mark the 502nd birth anniversary of tribal queen Rani Durgavati, Yadav said irrigation expansion would be an important part of efforts to improve the condition of farmers.
“During the Krishak Kalyan Varsh, the Balram Krishi Mahotsav is being organised to provide farmers the benefits of various schemes. We have set a target of increasing the irrigated area to more than 100 lakh hectares in five years,” Yadav said.
He said the government had also started efforts to provide farmers with 10 hours of electricity during the day.
Yadav laid the foundation stones for 18 development works estimated to cost Rs 142.90 crore and announced several new projects for Khandwa. Six Sandipani schools will be established in the Khalwa area, and a new 490-seat girls’ hostel will be constructed in Harsud, he said. Forty new tribal hostels will be built at a cost of Rs 161 crore, while Rs 143 crore will be provided to ashram schools.
E-libraries costing Rs 18 crore and roti-making machines costing Rs 34 crore will also be installed in hostels. Heavy-duty water coolers will be provided as well.
Sports complexes will be constructed in all Assembly constituencies of Khandwa, while a hi-tech nursery costing more than Rs 10 crore will be developed in the district, Yadav said.
The Chief Minister said the Chief Minister Sugam Parivahan bus service, which has already been launched, would be extended to villages and tribal areas.
“The government is working with the resolve of development through heritage and is committed to bringing basic facilities and opportunities to people in tribal areas,” Yadav said.
CM Yadav performed traditional Gond nature worship and offered prayers to Bada Dev before the event. Descendants of royal families from 52 Garhs were honoured during the programme.
Yadav said Rani Durgavati’s life conveyed messages of national pride, self-respect, leadership in difficult circumstances, respect for women, water conservation and protection of nature.
He also said 39 medical colleges and hospitals were currently operating in the state and 85,000 youths had been provided government jobs.
The Chief Minister said welfare and development works worth Rs 1 lakh crore would be undertaken in Madhya Pradesh during the current year.
